Record number of players oversees 13th national Othello title of Tom Schotte
27 November 2022For the 39th in Othello history players gathered to battle for the title of Belgian Othello champion. 25 players attended the tournament, of which 19 were eligable for at least on of the three titles: elite, female and junior. This is a record attendance for a tournament this millenium that was not a World Championship or European Grand Prix tournament. The last time we've had so many players was a Brussels tournament in 1999 with 28 participants.
Tomoki Otaka from Japan won the tournament undefeated, ahead of Nick Reunes and Daniel Dufour. The latter is the junior number three of the previous World Othello Championship. Tom Schotte ended 4th and qualified for the final together with runner-up Nick Reunes. In a solid final, Tom Schotte prolonged his national title by 1 year and is now 13 fold national champion. In the ladies final, Nancy Darck outplayed Nadja De Moor, while Jana Verstuyft conquered her first national junior title against Wout Schotte.
