Ralph Reijnders and Wout Schotte victorious in Ursel Othello Open
13 January 2024Ursel welcomed the kick-off of the 2024 Othello season for two tournaments. The main event was exciting until the very last second, where Ralph Reijnders had to flip 6 discs in 6 seconds to claim victory. He only lost to Virginie Ortegat who made a come-back after 17 years! She finished 3rd. Tom Schotte, who won the previous 4 Ursel Othello Opens, became runner-up after allowing a draw against Nadja De Moor along the way.
Traditionally there was a well attended side event for promising players, which attracted 10 players in total. Wout Schotte came out on top only losing to Jana Verstuyft (who had to leave after 3/4 to play basketbal). Another come-back in this tournament, as Evelyne Van Autreve made another appearance after 5 years. She immediately became runner-up. Bart Verstuyft, joining late whilst covering for ill colleagues, became 3rd with 4/5.
